About me
I’ve spent most of my life in the Houston area, but before diving into the world of BBQ, I worked in the offshore industry out of Galveston, Texas, alongside my brother on boats. Eventually, I decided to move to Austin, where most of my friends lived, and took an office job. That’s where my life took an unexpected and wonderful turn—I met my future wife, Kimberly Zukywich.
It was love at first kick. We met in a kickball league, and from there, the rest was history. Early on in our relationship, I discovered she had never tried Texas BBQ. Naturally, I had to fix that, so I took her to Terry Black’s. Watching her reaction when she saw that massive beef rib was unforgettable. I remember thinking, “I want to be looked at like that.”That moment sparked something in me, and soon after, I found myself working as a pitmaster at Terry Black’s on Barton Springs in Austin, Texas.
Over the next two years, I honed my craft while working at Salt Lick and BBQ Fiends in Hutto, Texas. Today, I’m proud to be part of the team at Leroy and Lewis, an award-winning Michelin-starred BBQ joint in South Austin.
What started as a hobby has grown into a full-blown passion and an art form that I pour my heart into every day. Seeing people smile or hearing them say, “Oh dang, that’s good,” keeps me inspired. I’ve always been a people pleaser, and there’s no better way to continue that than by serving up some of the best Texas BBQ around.
